Mike Vick was convicted and sent to prison for dog fighting. He’s lucky that his NFL career was waiting for him when he got back. This kind of thing can completely derail anyone’s career, no matter their talent. Vic was very talented, but he almost lost everything.

He recently admitted on the Tyreek Hill podcast that he regrets the situation a lot. Naturally, after returning to the NFL, he felt regret and guilt over everything, but now, much older, he regretted something else.

He lamented that there was no character he could look up to who would have told him that dog fighting was a bad idea. He said via NBC Sports:

“I wish I had a father figure or someone in my life — and I did too, for the most part — but not to the point where someone was like, ‘Man, you can really screw all of this up. Nobody came and said, ‘Brother, you can screw all this up.’ One person (did), I won’t say his name.”

Despite this unnamed person’s attempts, Vic ran through and ended up in jail. He nearly lost everything he had worked so hard to build because of his inability to listen to advice.

Mike Vick almost lost everything

Mike Vick has proven himself to be a leading quarterback. Without him, there is no Cam Newton. Without Newton, there is no Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, Keeler Murray, and others.

Mike Vick was a pioneer.

Vic also said that he thought his return would be better, but he quickly discovered that wasn’t the way life was:

“The whole time I was gone I thought they were going to wait for me, but that was wishful thinking. Like, I really thought they were going to wait for me to come back and all this would be over and then I would turn back, be the beginning, and just move on like nothing ever happened. But it’s not really. I was hoping for something to happen that could not happen.”

He was lucky enough to get a spot in the NFL after his comeback, which he now understands better.
