Judges J Nisha Banu and D. Bharata Chakravarthy gave an HCP judgment brought by Balaji’s wife against her husband’s ‘unlawful detention’

The Madras High Court on Tuesday delivered a split judgment on the writ of habeas corpus petition for the arrested Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji.

Judges J Nisha Banu and D. Bharata Chakravarthy gave an HCP judgment brought by Balaji’s wife against the “unlawful detention” of her husband.

While Judge Nisha Banu released Balaji, the other judge disagreed with her.

The court panel then ordered the registry to present the case to the Chief Justice for referral to another court.

Balaji was arrested on 14 June by the ED in connection with a cash-for-jobs scam when he was Tranpsort Minister in the former AIADMK regime.
