A Delhi court on Monday sentenced two AML suspects, Akhilesh Patti Tripathi and Sanjeev Jha, to ‘until court lifted’ for being part of a gang that attacked policemen at Burari police station in north Delhi in 2015.

Model Town MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi and Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha were convicted under sections 332 (voluntarily causing harm to deter a public official from his duty), and 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of an offence) of the IPC.

Two AAP leaders have been jailed and fined Rs 10,000.

The term “court boarding” refers to a sentence whereby the offender is locked in the courtroom and forced to sit for hours until the court proceedings are over.

A magistrates court had sentenced Tripathi to six months in prison and Jha to three months earlier this year.

“In view of the fact that the appellant Sanjeev Jha has a clean antecedent, a first time offender, has a family to support and the sum of the facts, it would be appropriate that he be sentenced to imprisonment until the court lifts the offense under section 332 IPC read with section 149 IPC. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 Rs to be deposited in Ld. Court of First Instance for the said offence,” the court said, while adjusting Jha Jail.

For MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi, the court noted, “…it would be appropriate for the appellant to be sentenced to imprisonment until the court lifted the offense under section 332 IPC, with section 149 IPC reading. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 to be deposited.”

In February 2015, a case was registered at Al Barari Police Station related to the kidnapping of two minor children. 30-40 people gathered at Barari Police Station to inquire about the investigation and alleged assault on a policeman and an assistant inspector.
