In another incident of violence against practicing doctors, three people stormed the intensive care unit of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri and physically assaulted the doctor on duty.

According to the Hizb ut Tahrir report, the family members of the patient, who was being treated in the hospital, were dissatisfied with the treatment and then forcibly admitted to the intensive care unit.

Later, one of the accused allegedly slapped a doctor who was on duty.

The accused have been identified as Shahim Ghani Ahmed, Afzal Ghani Ahmed and Qosiya Khan, HT reported.

Not only did family members threaten harm to hospital staff, but also other patients who were undergoing treatment around him, HT quoted police officials as saying.

The police report claimed the incident occurred on Saturday when the trio entered the intensive care unit on the tenth floor of the hospital without permission.

“Their 70-year-old mother had been undergoing treatment for some infections in the hospital since June 23. The relatives were arguing with the hospital staff about the amount of the bill and refused to pay. The hospital quoted the police as saying it earlier.”

The staff claimed that the relatives were not satisfied with the treatment and were upset that the medication had to be discontinued. When the ICU in charge tried to calm the situation down, one of them allegedly slapped the doctor and the other two pushed him.

The accused have been booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 504 (willful insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and also under the relevant sections of Maharashtra Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (prevention of violence and property damage or loss), 2010

The police detained the three accused, but two of them were later released. Bail was also granted on Monday for the person who slapped the doctor.
