A criminal was killed on Tuesday after security forces opened fire on a mob who were said to be trying to loot a police weapons depot in the restive Thoubal district of Manipur, officials said.

Thoubal district is about 24 km from Imphal, the state capital.
Army and Central Police forces have been deployed to bring peace to the North Eastern state as ethnic violence between the Mitte and Koki communities has continued for two months, killing more than 100 people, injuring many and destroying a large number of homes and places of worship.
