The accident occurred on National Highway 29 near the old Shmukidima police checkpoint at around 5 p.m. in heavy rain, according to officials.

Two people were killed and three others injured after a huge boulder collapsed and crushed their vehicles on a national highway in Chomukedema district of Nagaland on Tuesday evening. The incident was caught on video and spread on social media.

The accident occurred on National Highway 29 near a police checkpoint in Old Shmukidima at around 5 p.m. in heavy rain, according to officials. One person died on the spot while another person succumbed to his injuries while being treated at the referral hospital.

A dash cam captured video of the accident, showing a huge boulder falling on vehicles coming from the Kohima side. Within seconds, the impact turned the cars into a twisted pile of metal. Officials confirmed that the force of the accident was so severe that the three cars that hit the falling rocks were completely disfigured.

In April, a truck driver and his assistant died due to a rock hitting their truck along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. The boulder struck the cabin of a truck bound for Kashmir near Dijdol, killing the driver, Maqsood Ahmed, and his assistant, Naveed Ahmed, both residents of Rajpura district. Rescue workers rushed to the site shortly after the accident and helped recover bodies from the damaged truck.
