The passenger was intercepted by security personnel around 3 am at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport when his hand luggage was placed for security check in the x-ray scanner.
A senior officer said an Indian passenger bound for Dubai was arrested by CISF staff on Tuesday at the international airport here for allegedly carrying dirhams worth more than Rs. 3 crore in an unauthorized manner.
The passenger was intercepted by security personnel around 3am at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport when his hand luggage was placed for security check in an X-ray scanner.
A total of Dh1,422,500, worth around Rs. 3 crore at the current exchange rate, was recovered from the luggage of the man who was traveling to Dubai on an Emirates flight.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer said the passenger was unable to produce any document valid for carrying such a large volume of foreign currency and was handed over to the customs authorities.
