Los Angeles Angels star Shohei Ohtani left his start against the San Diego Padres with a coach in tow, meaning he was injured. It was likely the end of his start regardless, due to the rotation of consecutive home runs he had just given up.

While it may not be his best start, Otani’s injury is the last the Angels can endure.

The Angels will indeed be without Mike Trout for an extended period of time, with him likely not returning until August. Earlier in this match, Anthony Rendon left the game after hitting a ball off his leg.

These are basically the three best and most important players on the team, and they can all lose in one 24-hour period.

Los Angeles Angels win writer Jeff Fletcher was the first to report that Ohtani left the game with a coach:

Ohtani gave up HR for Jake Cronenworth on his 92 mph fastball, and now he’s leaving the game with the coach. He previously waived the HR coach two runs in favor of Xander Bogaerts, and the Angels trailed 5-1 in sixth.

“Ohtani gave up HR to Jake Cronenworth on a 92mph fastball and now he’s leaving the game with the coach. He previously gave up coaching HR for 2 years to Xander Bogaerts” – Jeff Fletcher

This is an important distinction from withdrawing from a game, as this most likely indicates a medical problem.

Fletcher would go on to assert that it is a bruise for Rendon and a blister on the right middle finger for Otani:

Anthony Rendon has a left tibia contusion, x-ray is negative.

ā€œShohei Ohtani has a blister on his right middle finger (this is the same finger that has the cracked nail on it)ā€ ā€“ Jeff Fletcher

Fortunately, this is a problem that will likely take a little time to resolve and should not be taken out in the long run.

Worst-case scenario Los Angeles Angels fans fear an injury to Shuhei Otani

Seeing star players get injured is something every MLB fan dreads. However, the Angels just watched all three of their star players suffer injuries.

They may have averted disaster, but losing players of that caliber for any length of time could cost them the AL West standings.

Especially with the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers currently sitting in front of them.
