West Indies Test captain Craig Brathwaite believes their mental preparation and execution of skills on the field will be key in the two-Test series against India which begins in Dominica on July 12.

West Indies cricket sank to a new low last Saturday when the two-time champions failed to qualify for the Cricket World Cup to be held in India later this year.

But Brathwaite and company are excited to look ahead and start the new ICC World Test Championship cycle with the series against India.

The West Indies cricketers are currently attending a training camp at the College Cricket Ground here to prepare for the series.

“It’s important to start well. We’re playing against India, so you know the players are really looking forward to it.

“I think as a team, as hitters and pitchers, we already have these ideas in mind about what to expect, which is why preparation is so important.

“It’s all about how we prepare, knowing what we’re going to get in terms of terms, we generally know how the decks are going to play, we already know the India team, so it’s important from now on to prepare mentally and understand the plans we want as a bowling unit and as batsmen, so you know it’s all going to come to a stage.” execution.”

Brathwaite will return to action after a four-month break when the Caribbean side face India in Dominica. The second test will be played in Trinidad from 20 July.

Brathwaite called on Caribbean cricket fans to come out in droves and support the team in the series against India.

“Dominica will host the first test match, and we invite the fans in Dominica to come out and support us, but the players are really looking forward to the first two test matches of this cycle,” said the red ball specialist.

“That’s great you know about the 100th Test match against the West Indies, and it’s in Trinidad, and you know they love their cricket there, so I think it’s important, and we have to try and make the region proud.” The Test matches against India will be followed by a three-match ODI series, starting on July 27, and a five-match T20I series starting on August 3.
