The greatest athlete of all time is often a huge debate with many different answers, and former NFL star OJ Simpson gave his thoughts on Joey Chestnut’s inclusion by ESPN at #1.
In a video on his Twitter page, Simpson detailed a conversation he had with a friend in which he said that ESPN has named champion hot dog-eating Chestnut as the greatest athlete of all time.
Simpson could not believe that the hot dog eater had been named the greatest athlete of all time, saying:

“I had a fun conversation with a friend of mine who spends a lot of time at the poker table, he called me up and told me who the greatest athlete ever was. I said ok I’m thinking about it and he said ok I’ll save you the trouble. He said ESPN was wearing it, Joey Chestnut, I said you gotta be kidding, Joey Chestnut, the greatest athlete of all time? Joey Chestnut? Eating hot dogs is not a sport.”
So Simpson clearly doesn’t think Chestnut should be the number one athlete of all time, but there may be a lot of people out there who think he should be.
For those who don’t know who Chestnut is, he’s a famous hot dog eating contest winner. He is 39 years old, and on Tuesday, during the annual July 4th festivities, he won Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest for the eighth consecutive time, at abcnews.go.com.
The win makes it an incredible 16th win for Chestnut in the eating contest, which is quite an achievement. So how did he do that?
Speed is obviously the name of the game, as the contestants are given a certain amount of time to eat as many hot dogs as possible. So how much does Joey eat?
62 amazing hot dogs in just 10 minutes.
This just makes your stomach explode at the thought of eating so much in such a short time frame. Now, does that kind of effort mean being the greatest athlete of all time?
We will let this discussion continue.
