David Beckham took time out from overseeing Inter Miami’s fearsome run to kick off the game on Center Court at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The former England captain and Manchester United midfielder sat at the Royal Box with his mother, Sandra, 74, as Russian 11th seed Daria Kasatkina kicked off the match against Briton Jody Bragg.

Dressed in a tan jacket, Beckham, 48, is a regular visitor to the All England Club – not far from Selhurst Park where he scored a daring goal from the halfway line in 1996 that sparked his glittering career.

Beckham may have enjoyed not going into a season for an MLS franchise that ran five wins in 20 games to stay bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

However, he has recently secured the services of Argentina’s World Cup winning captain Lionel Messi who will be linked up with his new team this month.

Beckham’s arrival at the Royal Box coincided with the opening of the roof at Center Court after several showers, with sunlight illuminating the lawn.
