The NBA’s annual moratorium is set to expire this week. This means that any trades made since the beginning of the moratorium will soon become official.
The moratorium began on June 30 at 6:00 PM ET and will end on July 6 at 12:00 PM ET. During the moratorium, teams are allowed to negotiate with players and agree to deals with other teams. However, these deals are considered oral agreements until July 6th.
Once the moratorium is over, teams can officially begin signing players, expanding players, and completing deals. In addition, teams are given 24 hours to match any offer sheets signed by tied free agents during the suspension.

What happens after the NBA moratorium?
July 1 is the official start of the NBA calendar year, followed by a moratorium until July 6. However, after that, free agency usually begins to wane and teams shift most of their focus toward the NBA Summer League.
This year’s summer leagues have already begun, starting with some smaller leagues. This includes the Salt Lake City Summer League, which began July 3 and will run through July 6. The California Summer Classic also kicked off on July 3 and will run through July 5.
However, the NBA Summer Premier League is set to begin in Las Vegas after the moratorium. It will start on July 7 with regular matches until July 14. This will be followed by the start of the Summer League playoffs on July 15 and the Summer Championship match on July 17.
Then, the real NBA offseason begins for most teams, as they look forward to training camp in September. However, additional deals and signings can still be made throughout the holiday season into next season.
