Stamp Fairtex believes it was her overzealousness that ultimately cost her a potential victory over last year’s atomic weight queen Angela Lee.

After competing during the ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix Championship in 2021, Stamp Fairtex got a chance to challenge reigning world heavyweight champion Angela Lee at the promotion’s 10th anniversary show, ONE X. The Thai star had fans on the edge of their seat after suffering a fatal blow to the body It made me groggy trying to recover. Stamp moved in and emptied her arsenal, but it wasn’t enough to take down the unstoppable champ.

After surviving an attack by Stamp in the opening round, Angela Lee bounced back and scored a takedown on her way to a second-round submission via rear choke to retain her world atomic weight title in stunning fashion.

Looking back at the fight during a recent interview Sports IllustratedStamp suggested that it was her impassioned response to hurting Lee in the first round that ultimately cost her the contest:

“I hurt her, but that’s when I got really excited. I didn’t stay disciplined. It cost me,” Vertex admitted.

Since then, Stamp Fairtex has been fighting its way back to the top of the weight class, scoring decisive victories over Jihin Radzuan and Alyse Anderson. Now, with Angela Lee sidelined after the tragic loss of her sister, Victoria Lee, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sytudtong has revealed that an interim Atomic Welterweight title will be created to keep the division moving forward.

On Friday, September 1, Stamp Fairtex will take on #2 ranked contender Ham Seo-Hee to crown the new interim World Welterweight Champion at ONE Fight Night 14 on Prime Video. Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America can watch the event live and for free in US primetime.
