Pasir and captain Shivam Mavi shone with figures of 4/43 as Central restricted Western Province to 216/8 on Day 1 of Semi-Final 1 of the Duleep Trophy 2023 at the KSCA Cricket Ground in Alor on Wednesday 5th July.
West Zone won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a good start with openers Prithvi Shaw and Priyank Panchal adding 43. However, West Zone slipped quickly losing half of their team with only 65 runs on the board.
Shaw (26) fell on Saurabh Kumar, while captain Panchal (13) was trapped by Yash Thakur. India’s star batsman Suryakumar Yadav was out for T20 for 7. He fell to Mavi who also bowled Sarfraz Khan (0). Western District fell five times when Hit Patel (5) was defeated by Avish Khan.
India Test hung Cheteshwar Pujara ignored for 28 off 102 balls. He went on to become Mavi’s third victim of the day. Atit Sheth (74 of 129) fired a fight for Western Province, adding 73 for the seventh wicket with Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (39 of 91).
Both batters were eliminated before the end of the game. Sheth, who hit nine fours and sixes, also fell to Mavi. At stumps on day one of the first Duleep Trophy 2023 semi-final, Chintan Gaja was unbeaten on 13 and Arzan Nagwaswalla on 5.

14 wickets fell on day one of the second Duleep Trophy 2023 semi-final between North Zone and South Zone at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday 5 July.
Electing to field first, Southern Province did an excellent job of restricting Northern Province to 198 as Vidwath Kaverappa claimed 5/28. However, through stumps, North Zone also claimed key wickets to restrict South Zone to 63/4.
Prabsimran Singh scored top scorer for North Zone with 49, while Ankit Kumar and Harshit Rana contributed 30 seconds. As for South Zone Kaverappa, he took key wickets from Dhruv Shorey (11), Ankit Kalsi (2), and opposition captain Jayant Yadav (2) before adding two backhands to Kitty.
After throwing the ball under 200, Northern District fought back with the ball. Baltej Singh took wickets from Sai Sudharsan (9) and Ravikumar Samarth (1), while South Zone captain Harshit Rana dismissed Hanuma Vihari (0) and wicket-keeper Ricky Bhui (0) from successive deliveries.
At stumps on day one of the second Duleep Trophy 2023 semi-final, Mayank Agarwal was batting on 37 and Tilak Varma on 12.
