While dismissing a petition for police directions to remove some barriers at the Mathura Road crossing, the Delhi High Court on Monday noted that the traffic authorities are the best judges to decide on the matter of traffic regulation in the city.

As oaths of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramunium Prasad said, “This court, while exercising its jurisdiction under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, is not inclined to sit as an appellate authority on decisions made by the traffic authorities for the regulation of traffic in the city.”

The HC was dealing with a public interest litigation (PIL) by Advocate Mamta Rani which sought to remove barriers placed on Mathura Road junctions, preventing a right turn while approaching the main building of the High Court or the Delhi High Court from the auxiliary building. Building the Supreme Committee.

The petition stated that because of the barriers, the distance of about 300-400 meters while traveling from the auxiliary building of the Supreme Court to the main building has increased to more than 5 kilometers, which is not only time consuming, but also wastes fuel.

The Permanent Adviser to the Delhi Government said that for the first time, the extension is free from signals and congestion and is now a permanent arrangement.

The court noted that a number of cars were parked on the roads in front of the Supreme Court and in the lanes adjacent to the court, causing traffic obstruction. “Traffic control is the sole domain of the traffic police. It is well known that the courts do not run the country and it is up to the administration to make decisions for the proper functioning of the government.”

Conclusively, the Supreme Court held, “In light of the foregoing, this Court is not inclined to accept the Immediate Political Impeachment Act. As a result, the IPO, along with the pending application(s), if any, has been dismissed.”
