A 38-year-old pilgrim from Rajasthan, who went missing, was found dead on Wednesday, leading to this year’s death toll. Amarnath Hajj to three, officials said. They said Roshan Lal Suthar, a resident of Bansal Dilera district of Rajasthan, has been missing since Tuesday and his body was found near the lower sacred cave. Officials said the cause of his death was not yet known.
However, they said that cardiac arrest caused by low oxygen concentration at high altitudes is one of the most common causes of deaths among Amarnath pilgrims and the security forces deployed there for service. Suthar’s death brought the death toll so far in this year’s annual yatra to three. The 67-year-old Yatri from Andhra Pradesh died on Monday on the Paltal axis of Yatra.
The Indian-Tibetan Border Police officer of the Amarnath Yatra mission at Sonamarg in Ganderpal district of Jammu and Kashmir died before the initiation of the yatra. Meanwhile, 18,354 devotees on Wednesday paid the cave shrine. Among them, officials said, were 12,483 men, 5,146 women, 266 sixths, two saddles, and 457 children.
In the first five days of the lytra, a total of 67,197 devotees had a ‘darshan’ (glimpse) of a natural ice lingam.
