Rain fell in several parts of Delhi on Thursday morning as the Indian Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rain and thunderstorms in the national capital.
Forecasts indicated that it would continue to rain on Friday and through the weekend.
According to IMD, the maximum temperature on Thursday is likely to be around 35°C while the minimum temperature early Thursday was 26.5°C.
Delhi has so far recorded 32.6 mm of rain, an increase of 21% compared to the normal rate of 27 mm, until July 6. During the past 24 hours, the city’s primary observatory, Safdarjung Weather Station, recorded 5.3 mm of rain. . The southwest monsoon hit Delhi on June 25, a little earlier than usual.
In a bulletin issued on Thursday, IMD said northwest India is likely to see light to moderate rain along with isolated torrential rains over the next five days. The bulletin stated that western disturbances are likely to affect the region from the night of July 8 onwards, and it is also possible that the interaction of western disturbance with monsoons will bring rains to the region on July 9. Isolated heavy rains are likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on July 9.
On July 8, Saturday, Delhi is likely to see light rain and thunderstorms, along with strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph.
Light precipitation remains on the forecast from July 10 to July 12.
The maximum temperature is likely to range from 33 to 36 degrees over the next six days.
