Taylor Fritz vs Mikael Ymir preview
World number nine Taylor Fritz will meet Mikael Ymir in the second round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships on Thursday.
Fritz’s campaign started at the All England Club against Yannick Hanfmann on Monday. The American initially gave up a lead in the first set, but secured another break of serve in the end to clinch the opener.
Fritz was unable to match Hanfmann in significant fashion after that as the latter put himself ahead by claiming the next two sets. The two were evenly matched for most of the fourth set, but the American took the deciding break in the final game of the set to make it.
The match was stopped at 3-2 in the fifth set due to bad weather. The rain made it impossible to play on Tuesday as well. They finally restarted the contest on Wednesday, with Fritz winning 6-4, 2-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Ymir faced Alex Mulkan in the first round. The first broke his opponent’s serve to start the match and closed out the opening match in similar fashion. A single serve break in each of the next two sets helped the Swede win the match 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

Taylor Fritz vs Mikael Ymir predictions
Fritz overcame a significant rain delay to finish ahead of Hanfmann. He fired 15 aces and won 71% of his first serve points. The American also had 42 winners against 34 unforced errors.
On the other hand, Ymir cruised to an easy win over Mulkan. He didn’t even encounter a single breaking point. While he played a great match in the previous round, the Swede will need to raise his level in the next match as the quality of the opposition will be very different.
Fritz is a player who can turf based on his past results. However, it didn’t taste quite the same on the surface this year. In fact, he did not win back-to-back matches on grass in the run-up to Wimbledon.
Ymer’s record against top 10 players is rather dismal. He had lost all of his previous ten matches against them. He’s had a good game, but he lacks a signature shot to create a gap in the game of his opponents, especially the top-ranked. For now, Fritz’s serve and forehand, if he’s fired on all cylinders, should be able to see him through to the next round.
He chooses: Taylor Fritz won in straight sets.
