Drew McIntyre reversed in his match against Sheamus and Gunther at WrestleMania 39 for the Intercontinental Championship.
The match took place on the second night of The Show of Shows this year, and it was amazing. Ring General retained his title after throwing a Power Bomb to claim the pinfall victory. It was also the Scottish Warrior’s last match before he went out of action. He made a surprise return to WWE at Money in the Bank, where he faced the leader of IMPERIUM.
Speaking in the latest version of WWE’s The BumpOn the!, Drew McIntyre revealed that his 3-way match against Sheamus and Gunther is in the top 3 of his favorite matches he has ever had.
“One of my favorite matches ever was in the top three. And it could be any situation, to be honest, to have a WrestleMania match at that level with Sheamus there and always making the joke, you know, I met him when I was 19 He was 43. A joke because he’s so much older than me, but I had always dreamed of having that big match on stage and finally being at WrestleMania. Having Gunther there was incredibly talented and physically unrealistic,” McIntyre said. WrestlingNews.co)
Ring General has held this coveted title for over a year now. He has successfully defended it against many superstars, and is on his way to breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s record.
Drew McIntyre praised Gunther for restoring prestige to the Intercontinental Championship, which had been lost in the past decade.
“He definitely raised the bar 100%. The Intercontinental Championship is where it needs to be. It’s where it was when I was growing up. I don’t remember it being at that level for very long. When he won (the belt) in ’09, he was still He has status. But somewhere along the way, he slipped. We don’t need to get into the ins and outs of why this happened, but I’ve seen Gunther’s evolution since I saw him when he was out of WWE,” McIntyre said.
Although not yet confirmed, Drew McIntyre is expected to challenge Gunther for the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam in Detroit. It will be interesting to see if he will be the one to take down the champ.
