A man in his 20s died of a drug overdose in a hotel room in Ludhiana on Friday. The FIR was recorded by the police after his friend, with whom he was staying at the hotel, disappeared after his death.
Police said the two young men rented a hotel room near the railway station on Thursday. On Friday, when the hotel staff called them to ask if they were checking out or staying for another day, none of them answered the call. When the staff were upstairs, one of them was identified as 24-year-old Archdeep Singh from Kumkalan, he was lying dead on the bed and there was a syringe lying near him. Police said his friend had not been seen anywhere and had fled.
An FIR has been filed against the unknown friend of the deceased under Section 304 (Intentional homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC with Police No. 1.
Vijay Kumar Sharma, manager of the Hollywood Hotel, said the two young men checked in on Thursday evening. They said they are leaving on Friday as they have to catch a train to Amritsar. Sharma added that he made a call on Friday afternoon to ask if they wanted to extend their stay or check out. When no one answered the phone, they checked the room. They are shocked to see one dead and the other missing.
Inspector Inderjeet Singh, Additional SHO in Police Section No. 1, said that three syringes were found in the room. It was a case of suspected drug overdose. He added that an autopsy would clarify the cause of death and a forensic team was called immediately for investigation.
