Railway officials said inspection of Katra-Banihal section of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line has been completed.

Senior officials of Northern Railways said here on Saturday that 95 percent of the work on the 111 km long Katra-Banihal railway has been completed. They said Northern Railways Director General Shobhan Chaudhary inspected the ongoing work in the Katra Banihal section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway (USBRL) project on Friday.

Chowdhury has done extensive inspection of the project and other work in progress in Jammu and Kashmir. He was accompanied by USBRL’s Chief Administrative Officer SP Mahi, Director RK Hegde and other senior officials. Mahi explained to the team that 161 kilometers of railway lines have already been run over 272 kilometers of the project.

“On the remaining 111-kilometre long Ketra Banihal, work is about 95 percent complete despite all the geological, topographical and meteorological challenges,” he said. Chowdhury started its inspection from Katra onwards by trolley till T1 Tunnel and thereafter, he did a thorough inspection and review of T1 Tunnel on site with the Officers and Agency.

He also inspected the highest railway bridge in the world in Chenab.
