Narayanagoda Police in Hyderabad registered an FIR against a private doctor and hospital on Friday for negligence in a case of nasal necrosis of a newborn caused by excessive light therapy as alleged by the infant’s parents.
The police said that the complainant alleged harassment and threats from the hospital administration when requesting medical reports.
According to the officers, the complainant’s wife gave birth to a baby boy in the hospital on June 8, and on the advice of the doctors, the baby was kept under observation in the hospital. Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for phototherapy. He said he noticed his son’s nose turning black and was told that this was normal. But on June 22, part of his son’s nose fell off.
According to the father, the doctors reportedly admitted their mistake and promised to bear the expenses of the treatment. The department also asked a plastic and plastic surgery specialist to examine his son and the expert informed the parents that the nose could be fixed within two years. He can be operated on when he turns 14, according to the complaint.
On July 7, the parents turned to the police seeking action against the hospital. They claimed it was a clear case of nasal necrosis due to excessive light therapy.
The FIR has been registered under Section 337 (Negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the case is under investigation.
