Malayalam producer and businessman Ashani Ravi passed away on Saturday. The producer, whose full name was K Ravindranathan Nair, was 90 years old. His first film as a producer was Anweshichu Kandethiyilla.

The producer earned the nickname “Achani Ravi” after his movie Achani became a box office success. He built Kollam Public Library and Sopanam Auditorium after the success of the film. His other films include Thampo, Komati and Eshban.

With a total of 14 films to his credit, Ravi’s contributions to the film industry extend far beyond production. He did an acting role in Esthappan, directed by G. Aravindan. He has won many awards including 20 national awards. He has served as a member of the National Film Awards Committee, the Central Film Certification Board, and the Film Development Corporation.

Ravi was honored with the prestigious JC Daniel award by the state government in 2008. He is survived by his sons Pratap Nair, Pritha and Prakash Nair. His wife Usha Ravi He was a playback singer who sang in films like Thampu and Aambal Poovu.
