Power supply to many districts of Pimpri Chinchwad was affected on Saturday after 400 kV transmission lines operated by India’s Power Grid Corporation developed obstacles from Shikrapur to Taleegwan.
A press release from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation (MSDCL) stated that work is in full swing to restore connections.
Since the morning of 9 am this technical breakdown has resulted in loss of power supply to consumers from Pimpri Chinchwad, Urse, Theur, Perne and other parts. This happened when high-powered transmission lines went down around 9.03 am, suspending 355 megawatts of electricity in these areas. Districts in Pimpri, Rahatani, Pimple Saudagar, Chinchwadgaon, Kalewadi, Walhekarwadi, Dehu Road, Dehugaon, Kharadi, Old Sangvi, Thitewadi, Theur, Perne and others have also experienced power supply impacts.
Currently, the Power Grid Corporation is working on a war basis to restore the transmission lines. Until then, MSEDCL and Maharashtra Electricity Generation Company Limited (MEGCL) have ensured that power supply to consumers is not impeded. However, due to the fact that high-tension transmission lines require a minimum of 7-8 hours to rectify, the power company said it would have to opt for mandatory load shedding in a periodic manner in many areas.
