The former India captain takes no qualms in suggesting that when it comes to India against Pakistan, the men in blue start as favorites in the 2023 ODI World Cup or Asia Cup.

“India will always be favorites in the bigger tournaments. History says so. We’ve always had the best of Pakistan,” Ganguly told RevSportz. However, the former BCCI president added, “But this is Pakistan a good team.”

With the 2023 Asian Cup and the ODI World Cup on the horizon, the two Asian rivals are poised to close at least three times. The same as last year, only in a different format.

India have edged Pakistan under Babar Azam twice in all three T20 ties in the Asian Cup and the T20 World Cup in Australia. While India have seven out of seven perfect wins over Pakistan in the ODI World Cup, the men in blue are nine to six ahead in the Asian Cup tally.

The former Bengal Cricket Association president also spoke of the encounter as a possible semi-final, which if it happens, will be hosted by Eden Gardens.

About the potential semi-finalists for the upcoming global event, Ganguly said, “Australia, England, India. You can never underestimate New Zealand in these big games. I’d pick five, and that includes Pakistan too. Pakistan better qualifies so we have India semi-finalists.” Pakistan in the Gardens of Eden.
