Victor Wimpanyama has been on the wrong end of one of the most ferocious escapades in ongoing summer league basketball. Charlotte Hornets forward Kay Jones received a great ball from a teammate and lobbed it low over the 7-foot-5 Wimpy.
Twitter fans reacted to the shading clip:
“Don’t let Stance Britney Spears see this”

The comment on Britney Spears was about the pop star’s recent brush with security Victor Wimpanyama. Spears claimed that one of her bodyguards hit her hard.
The singer told reporters after the incident that she was a big fan of “Wimpy”. I also expected someone from the French camp to publicly apologize for the incident.
Las Vegas police later issued a statement that after an investigation, it was found that Britney Spears’ hand had inadvertently hit her. Furthermore, no case has been filed against security in Wembanyama.
So exhilarating was Mbaniyama’s debut in the Summer League that Thomas and Mack’s center was packed to the rafters. Tickets were more expensive than previous editions of the tournament due to the excitement of the Frenchman’s first game as an NBA player.
The #1 pick of this year’s draft started 0-3 on the night, which included a missed dunk against Brandon Miller. He struggled on offense, shooting only 1-7 and missing all three of his attempts in the first half.
After the first 24 minutes of the game, he had five points, five rebounds, three blocks and one demoralizing tackle thanks to Jones.
Victor Wimpanyama also showed glimpses of his amazing skills
Victor Wimpanyama is the best prospect the NBA has seen since LeBron James. Part of the excitement and intrigue was the apprentice’s unprecedented combination of size, height, mobility and skill.
Friday night against the Charlotte Hornets, some of those enviable assets were on display. Wembanyama’s length and edge protection was already evident. Despite a hard slam by Kay Jones, the rookie dominated the paint on the defensive end.
“Wimpy” finished with a five-seater, half of what the San Antonio Spurs fielded as a team. The number of shots he changed once he was there was also notable.
Wimpanyama’s handling and creation of the ball were also amazing. Although he couldn’t consistently break down the Charlotte defense, he gave his teammates many opportunities with his passing and reading of the game.
The newbie had to say this after the game (via Nate Ryan):
“I didn’t really know what I was doing on court, but I’m trying to learn…”
The Wembanyama era is just beginning. While it got off to a rocky start, Spurs fans will be happy with what they saw.
