A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused Chhattisgarh’s Congress government of involvement in a multi-billion liquor scam, Prime Minister Bhopesh Baghel on Saturday questioned the BJP’s alliance with Ajit Pawar’s National Congress faction, some of whose leaders have been in the crosshairs of central agencies. .
The liquor scam of Rs 2,161 crore is being investigated by the ED department. On Friday, Modi accused Congress of “Vision of Chhattisgarh as an ATM”.
Speaking to reporters at Raipur Airport, Baghel replied, “Yesterday the issue of corruption was raised loudly and zero tolerance was never spoken of (by PM Modi). Even in Madhya Pradesh, the chief minister said while beating his chest that he would not even have mercy.” One corrupt person and we believed that no corrupt person would be left in the country. But after eight days, the people who have been indicted for corruption (by BJP and central agencies) in Maharashtra are ministers, be it Ajit Pawar, Chajan Bhojbal, And Hassan Musharraf. The corrupt people have been laundered with anjajal and become ministers. So, when (Modi) says he will not leave any corrupt person behind, he means that he does not want to see any corrupt person outside the BJP. Why is there no action taken against frauds during his rule? Raman Singh? The NAN scam, the fund scam where poor people lost their money, the Panama Papers leak”.
Bagel named several leaders facing alleged corruption charges in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra, who over the past few years have left their parties to join the BJP or ally themselves with the BJP.
Baghel said he tried to seek support from Prime Minister Modi for development work in Chhattisgarh but was not helped. “(Modi) did not give a penny to Chhattisgarh. He gave a political speech and just left.”
The PM also spoke about the alleged liquor scam and other scams alleged by PM Modi. “They said a sand scam took place here. During Raman Singh’s rule, the amount of royalty collected (for sand) was Rs 10 crore, now it’s Rs 100 crore. They talk about liquor scam… During their rule in 2017, the beverage revenue was Alcoholic is Rs 3,900 crore and today it is Rs 6,500 crore. And if they talk about a scam, they say the hologram has changed. Where is the hologram attached? In the factory, right? Then why is there no work on distillers? Have they done any ‘putting’? “Using distillates? Who will benefit the most? The distillers!”
Bagel added: “We’ve given notice to three distillers. We will not allow any embezzlement and get every penny back. The Excise Department has sent a notice to three distillers asking them to provide an explanation. We asked distillers if they tampered with the hologram or stored the wines in a warehouse without a hologram attached or without paying taxes. Appropriate action will be taken.”
Bagel also criticized the central government’s coal production policies, which he said would lead to huge losses. Baghel said, “Because of their policies, the country is facing shortage of coal and coal is being imported. Passenger trains have been canceled due to their policies and they are alleging 10 lakh crores scam, but has anyone been arrested for it? Today they are trying to auction coal mines but they are not getting Any buyers. This year Chhattisgarh will face losses of Rs 9 lakh crore due to their policies.”
