Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnau on Saturday visited the integrated bus factory and inspected the manufacture of Vande Bharat trains at the facility here.

In 2018-19, ICF launched the country’s first semi-high-speed train popularly known as ‘Vande Bharat Express’ with Prime Minister Narendra Modi stopping the first train from New Delhi to Varanasi.

During the second week of October 2022, ICF achieved the distinction of having produced 70,000 more coaches since its inception in 1955, the highest of any passenger coach manufacturer in the world.

Earlier in the day, Vaishnaw unveiled a special train that will be run on heritage routes across the country.

He inspected a train that had been converted as a steam locomotive at Dr MGR Central Railway Station here, and said more such trains will be introduced on heritage routes in the coming months across the country.

Vaishinau, on this occasion, also conducted a review meeting with senior officials of Southern Railways at its headquarters here, and discussed matters relating to safety, progress of infrastructure and station redevelopment projects, speed improvement works, and train schedule, among others.

Director General, Southern Railways RN Singh gave a presentation on the performance of the region which was commended by the Minister. A press release said Vaishnava had instructed the authorities to take corrective action wherever required.
