Top seed Carlos Alcaraz takes on unseeded Italian Matteo Berrettini in an impressive fourth-round match at Wimbledon.

World No. 1 Alcaraz faced a stern challenge from Chilean senior Nicolás Jarry. The 20-year-old made a stellar start, losing three matches, before Garry came into contention.

Hitting hard from the baseline, Jarry took the second set in a tiebreak to level the proceedings. The Carriers took the all-important third set, but Gary wasn’t far from finished, leading 4-1, looking to force a decider.

However, Alcaraz struggled – winning six of the next seven matches – to pull off a hard-fought victory in four minutes shy of four hours to grow to 43-4 on the season and 7-2 at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, 38th seed Berrettini belied his lack of match practice by upsetting 19th seed Alexander Zverev in three brutal sets. The former finalist got his first push – conceding three games to win the opener.

However, the second and third sets went the distance – but Brittini won both sets on tie-breakers to improve to 10-7 in 2023 and 13-3 at Wimbledon. The 2021 finalist was very tenacious on his serve, won 86% of his first serve points, and hit 35 winning goals.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Matteo Berrettini head to head

Alcaraz has played two of his three meetings with Bertini – including their most recent match in the quarter-finals of Rio de Janeiro last year. This will be their first meeting on grass.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Matteo Berrettini predictions

Berrettini in the second week.

Alcaraz and Berrettini are both solid base players and have similar styles of play: big serves, powerful strikes on either side, and good movement.

However, Alcaraz takes the lead due to his superior experience and consistency, but Berrettini has a better pedigree from the turf. While Alcaraz went 12-2 on the surface—winning their last eight games—Berettini was 36-7 and won four titles.

If he repeats the form he showed against Zverev, Berrettini – despite his lack of matches in 2023 – could cause serious trouble for Alcaraz – who is still green on the lawn. However, expect the world number one to pull off another hard-fought victory.
