An IIT Delhi student allegedly died by suicide inside his hostel early Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Ayush Ashna, 20, and police said they haven’t found anything suspicious yet.
Manoj C, DCP (South West), said, “We got a call on the late night of June 8-9. The caller said a student had committed suicide…”
Ashna originated from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Family members of the deceased have been notified.
Meanwhile, officials at the International Institute of Technology Delhi issued a statement saying, “The remains of Ayush Ashna, a resident of Udaygiri hostel, were taken into police custody early this morning in the presence of his family. Delhi Police is investigating the cause(s) of his departure.”
Institute officials said the deceased was attending a summer course and staying at the hostel. Aditya Mittal, Dean (Student Affairs) said, “According to our official records in the Counseling Unit, no student ever approached us for any counseling or assistance.”
