Gurgaon on Sunday witnessed 150 mm of rain as of 12 noon as the city witnessed heavy rains for the second day in a row, which led to flooding and traffic jams in several areas.
Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav has appealed to residents not to leave their homes, except for essential work, amidst the incessant rains. Yadav also asked the city-based companies to advise their employees, except those working in essential services, to work from home on Monday so that water can be cleared from the roads once the rain stops.
Yadav, who visited the waterlogged areas during the rains, said that most of the tunnels were opened to motorists due to proper drainage arrangements, there was no water logging on the main road on NH 48 and traffic on the stretch was smooth.
However, the service roads in the Narsinghpur stretch near Hero Honda Chowk and Rajeev Chowk, among several other points, were submerged.
According to a message from the district administration, it has identified 114 critical points and given orders to 16 officers to remove water from these areas to deal with waterlogging.
Efforts are underway to ease traffic on major roads, Yadav said, adding that officials of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), Gurugram City Development Authority (GMDA), and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) are working together to solve the traffic problem in the city.
All the officers, who are responsible for handling six to seven critical points, were asked to remain at their posts while the Yadav is being inspected. Administration officials said the water is being pumped off the roads through pumps and drainage.
