Shiv Sena (UBT) President Uddhav Thackeray said on Sunday that the notice of show cause issued by Maharashtra Assembly President Rahul Narwekar to 54 Sena is in accordance with the Supreme Court order and no one can escape from it.
On Saturday, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Narwekar sent notice to Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde as well as 16 legislators belonging to Shiv Sena (UBT) from Uddhav Thackeray asking why they did not terminate their membership after exclusion proceedings. Narwekar asked them to respond to the notice in the next seven days.
Thackeray said, “The ruling of the Supreme Court is crystal clear. The Speaker will have to take a decision within this framework. Any decision outside of it will be against democracy and I am sure the Speaker will not do such a thing. And if it is done, we can always fall back on court again.”
Narwekar’s move comes a week after the Shiv Sena (UBT) moved MLA Sunil Prabhu to the High Court over the House Speaker’s inaction following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the power struggle in Maharashtra between the Eknath Shinde-led Senas and Udhav Thackeray.
Prabhu, the head of the Thackeray faction, initiated impeachment proceedings against Shinde and 15 other SLA members, and followed a similar notice against 23 other lawmakers.
Shinde-led Sena also filed a notice of ineligibility against the 14 Thackeray-affiliated MLAs, with the exception of Aaditya Thackeray.
