“I have a KTM 390 but I don’t use it, the security guys don’t allow me,” Rahul Gandhi said during his interaction with the bike mechanic in Karol Bagh, an area in New Delhi. He visited the area on June 27, but the video of the visit has now been shown on Rahul Gandhi’s official YouTube channel. Describing it as the “next stop” to the “Bharat Jodo Yatra,” Gandhi shared on social media glimpses of his candid conversations with the mechanics.
In the video, Gandhi strikes up a conversation with a mechanic repairing Enfield Bullet bikes after a picture on a wall catches his eye. When Gandhi spoke of his desire to travel to Leh-Ladakh on a motorbike, the mechanic shared details of his 15-day trip to Leh on a motorbike in the 1980s.
Gandhi is later seen in the video helping two mechanics with maintenance on a Honda motorcycle while talking to them about their aspirations.
“If a person is not a mechanic, he is usually not aware of what is going on behind the repair of the vehicle, what problems you are having. I just wanted to learn how you guys work here,” said Gandhi.
Talking about the working conditions of the mechanics, Gandhi said that their children did not want to follow their father’s profession. If Gandhi provided an atmosphere conducive to growth, Gandhi asked them what the next step would be for them. “Hero Honda was founded by Honda who was a mechanic. Tell me about a mechanic who started his own company in India? The capabilities and capabilities you have do not open doors for you. Your talent is underappreciated,” Gandhi said.
“We never thought we would sit down and have tea with Rahul Gandhi. He has knowledge of bicycles too and I was very happy to meet him,” said one of the mechanics. Another appreciated his work with the Bharat Jodo Yatra and his interest in their lives and understanding of their problems while not violating the topic of politics during the interaction.
