Police said on Sunday that a contract employee of the Electricity Department was arrested in this district of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly beating a Dalit man and forcing him to lick his sole.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against Patel under the provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Tribes Act (prevention of atrocities) and Sections 323 (voluntarily causing harm), 504 (willful insult with intent to breach the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the circuit officer said. The accused was also seen in the video clip twisting one of his arms, pushing him to the ground, climbing onto his chest and slapping him. He was also seen forcing the complainant to lick his sole.
Uttar Pradesh Police said in a tweet on Saturday night, “DGP UP has come to know of the incident and has directed the DIG group to visit the crime scene.
