Sources said that Yadav, who ran the Mission Defense Academy in Beynur, took money from Indian Army aspirants in return for taking time off from their medical examinations and obtaining forged letters of appointment.

The Special Task Force of the Uttar Pradesh State Police said on Sunday it had arrested two people, including an army man, for allegedly running a fake army recruitment racket and forging appointment letters.

Sources from the force said the Special Forces arrested the fugitive soldier Pawan Raj and Satish Yadav, director of a defense academy in Bainur district of Lucknow on Saturday based on a tip-off.

They said that several fake certificates and Adar cards had been recovered from their possession.

Sources said that Yadav, who ran the Mission Defense Academy in Beynur, took money from Indian Army aspirants in return for taking time off from their medical examinations and obtaining forged letters of appointment. Yadav ran the racket in collusion with Pawan Raj, an ex-military man.

During interrogation, Pawan Raj told the STF that he met two army men, Bala and Suryavanshi, during his posting to the Army Medical Corps, Lucknow in 2017.

STF sources said he joined their gang and earned millions of rupees for helping clear hundreds of candidates from their medical exams.

They said Suryavanshi and Bala were arrested and imprisoned after a court-martial but Pawan Raj managed to evade conviction.

STF sources said that Pawan Raj used to contact candidates through the Defense Academy and took Rs 4-5 lakh from each candidate.
