Baghpat police have arrested two men accused of raping and looting a Bihar couple after an exchange of gunfire in Pilana village in the district early Sunday morning. Police said that while the two accused – Rashid and Abd, residents of Ghaziabad district – were wounded in their legs, a policeman was injured in the exchange of fire.

According to the police, a Bihar couple filed a complaint on 4 July, alleging that they had been kept in a guest house by two men in a guest house on the Meerut-Bagpat Highway on the night of 3 July. Beaten and two men raped the woman.

Police said that after identifying the two accused men through CCTV footage at the guesthouse and nearby shops, they began searching for them. A cash reward of Rs 25,000 has also been announced for her capture. According to the police, both the accused have criminal cases and are out on bail.

Police said, “Rasheed has 10 criminal cases, mostly of looting, registered against him at various police stations in Baghpat district, while there are 14 cases against him against Abdul.”
