In a tragic incident, a 45-year-old woman was severely beaten to death in Khagaria district of Bihar state, over a land dispute. On Sunday, police said the woman’s body was found mutilated, with her eyes gouged out, her tongue cut out and injuries to her genitals.

The incident was reported on Saturday evening, when the victim, Sulekha Devi, went to her field in Mahandipur village. Devi was working in the field, police said, and was attacked by four men on bicycles, who beat her, gouged out her eyes with a knife, cut out her tongue, and mutilated her genitals.

The woman died on the spot, police said, adding that a case has been registered against five people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges under Section 302 of murder. The accused are on the run since the crime was reported and the police have launched an investigation to arrest them.

Sulekha Devi’s family has accused five of their neighbors – Mahendra Singh, Rolo Singh, Rajdev Singh, Phulunji Singh and Shyam Kumar Singh, according to a report by the Sulekha Devi family. Hindustan Times.

According to the police, Sulekha Devi’s family was involved in a long-running land dispute with five of their neighbours. Although the dispute is unbiased, nine years ago, the victim’s husband and son-in-law were murdered over the same matter.

An official said the accused were also involved in their murder and are currently out on bail.

The brutality of the killing indicates that the attackers displayed a deep hostility towards the woman, said SHO Officer Amlesh Kumar, according to the HT a report.

The incident sparked outrage in the village, leading to protests as local residents blocked Highway 31. They refused to cremate the victim’s body until the accused was arrested.

However, after assurances from the police that swift and stern action would be taken, the villagers agreed to end their protest.
