It was in the Caribbean that Virat Kohli first donned India’s Test kit, in 2011 when he made his debut in the longest form of the game against the West Indies.
As the Indian team returns for another tour, the former India captain was asked about his fondest memories of touring the Caribbean.
“Obviously my favorite memory is Antigua. I got my first double hundred in Test cricket in Antigua against Sir Vivian Richards. That for me was a very special moment and then he met me in the evening too and congratulated me,” Kohli told Star Sports.
In 2016, Kohli scored his first Test double hundred, which was followed by five more.
On Sunday, Kohli will also return to another throwback. “The only two parts from the players in our last test in Dominica in 2011. I never imagined the trip would bring us back here in such different capacities,” he captioned a photo of himself alongside Dravid.
At that point, India managed to take the third and final Test of the series to clinch it 1-0. While it was the first Test series for young Virat Kohli, who had already won the U19 World Cup and ODI World Cup, it was the last time the Dravidians played a Test match in the Caribbean.
India’s next assignment, which will be the first after the World Test Championship final defeat against Australia, will be a two-Test, three-ODI and five-T20I tour.
