An information report was registered on the violence in Imphal against members of the “Truth-Finding Commission”, including CPI leader and general secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women Annie Raja, who described the violence in Manipur as “state-sponsored”.
Apart from Raja, the other members are Nisha Sidhu of NIFW and Advocate Deeksha Dwivedi. The FIR was registered at Imphal Police Station on Saturday night based on a complaint lodged by an individual named S Liben Singh. Sections under which FIRs are recorded include those relating to conspiracy to commit crimes; provocation with intent to riot; defamation. deliberate insult with intent to provoke a disturbance of the peace; assumptions and assertions harmful to national integration; and promoting hostility between different groups.
In his complaint, Singh referred to a press meeting held by the three-member panel on 1 July in Imphal and claimed that they had referred to the violence in Manipur as state-sponsored “without any hard evidence”.
“Such a statement is a plot to overthrow a democratically elected government by inciting the people to wage war against the government… The above-mentioned statements by the accused by spreading false and false news during the official investigation have incited the common people to move against the government and create enmity between the communities and they They add fuel to the fire in this volatile situation of the state,” the complaint states.
Earlier, the Chief Magistrate of Imphal East issued summons to Professor Kham Khan Suan Hausing of the University of Hyderabad on a complaint filed by Imphal resident Moirangtheim Manihar Singh over remarks he made in a news interview on June 17. derogatory statements regarding “holy religious places historically associated with the Meitei community” and false statements “accusing and defaming the Meitei community”.
On Sunday, Manipur Home Commissioner T. Ranjit Singh also wrote to the DGP asking for “severe action” against members of the Zumi Students’ Union who published a book titled “The Inevitable Divide – Documents on State-sponsored Ethnic Cleansing in Manipur, 2023”. The 96-page book was published in May by the Zumi Student Union and the Koki Student Organization. The internal commissioner asked the DGP to register the FIR against the author and the organisation, prohibit its further publication and take “appropriate steps to make a detailed motion for forfeiture and issue the necessary search warrants against the book”.
