The Muay Thai community suffered a tragic loss last month following the sudden death of referee Watcharyn Ratchaniphon.
A beloved member of the sport, Watcharin has officiated some of the most important Muay Thai matches for the ONE Championship. From up-and-coming fighters to superstars, “Paopom” has made sure every fighter he heads up is looking his best.
A month after the official’s death, ONE Championship released a tribute video honoring the life of one of its most integral members.
“Forever in our hearts and memories ❤️ RIP, Watcharin “Paopom” Ratchaniphon 🙏,” the ONE Championship posted on Instagram.
The outpouring of love came from the fighters and fans and also from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
“💔💔💔,” Sityodtong wrote in the comments section.
Former world featherweight and lightweight champion Martin Nguyen, world middleweight champion Vitaly Begdache, and pioneer heavyweight Alan Ngalani also paid tribute to Bucharen.
Equipment maker King Pro Boxing’s social media page also honored Hyatt Watcharin and called the police sergeant one of the best officials in the sport.
“He was without a doubt the best referee in ONE. May he rest in peace,” the page wrote.
Sensai-sam wrote, “He wasn’t just judgmental ❤️, he was a deep soul who spread a lot of good energy and a calm, welcoming vibe 🥺. We miss you bro, y’all.”
Watcharin’s last match for the ONE Championship was a featherweight kickboxing match between Superbon Singha Mawynn and Tayfun Ozcan at ONE Fight Night 11 last June.
May Watcharin’s soul rest in peace.
