Microsoft On Monday, it confirmed it was cutting additional positions, a week into the start of the 2024 fiscal year.
The cuts come in addition to a cutback announced in January that resulted in layoffs of 10,000 workers. The software company also revealed a small number of cuts this time last year. Jake Wire I reported about the recent cuts earlier on Monday.
AmazonAnd Google Other big tech companies have also pulled back this year after quickly adding headcount to meet surging demand during the Covid pandemic. Microsoft has said in recent months that customers are looking for ways to save money on their cloud computing bill.
A Microsoft spokesperson declined to say how many cuts are in the latest round. In January, CEO Satya Nadella issued a note indicating that the company would change its device lineup and standardize leases.
And Microsoft gave a notice on Monday saying it would cut off 276 people in its home state, Washington. Of these, 66 are virtual.
Salespeople and customer success reps posted messages on social networks announcing that they had lost their jobs.
“Regulatory and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of running our business,” the spokesperson said in an email. “We will continue to prioritize and invest in areas of strategic growth for our future and to support our customers and partners.”
