The DMRC said on Tuesday that the proposed Rithala-Narela corridor of the network may be extended to Kundli in Haryana to provide additional connectivity to the neighboring state.
If approved, this will be the fourth expansion of the Delhi Metro in Haryana after the Yellow Line (Gurgram), Violet Line (Faridabad) and Green Line (Bahadurgarh), Delhi Metro Authority said in a statement.
This corridor is being planned as an extension of the Shahid Stahl-Rathala corridor currently operating on the Red Line.
In fact, this may be the first Delhi Metro corridor connecting Haryana and Uttar Pradesh via Delhi. Initially, smaller stations with platform lengths to accommodate four bus trains were proposed to meet initial traffic demand while providing for future expansion to accommodate eight bus trains, officials said.
If approved, the entire corridor should be 27.319km long, consisting of 22 stations. While it will climb 26.339 km, it will be about 0.89 km downhill. Of the 22 stations, 21 will be lifted and one will be in line, according to the DMRC.
Suggested stops on this corridor are Rithala, Rohini Sector 25, Rohini Sector 26, Rohini Sector 31, Rohini Sector 32, Rohini Sector 36, Barwala, Rohini Sector 35, Rohini Sector 34, Bawana Industrial Area – 1 Sector 3,4, Bawana District Industrial – Sector 1, 2, Pawana GG Colony, Sanuth, New Sanuth, Depot Station, Purgarh Village, Green Mandi Narela, Narila Sports Complex DDA, Narila, Narila Sector 5, Kundli and Nathopur.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has launched its housing schemes with over 3,500 apartments located in Narela. This enhanced connectivity to these areas will greatly help the residents of these new residential colonies. Also in the past, the DMRC’s expansion to Dwarka has enhanced connectivity with the sub-city, the statement said.
She added that such an extension of the Red Line would connect this region with the already functioning Red Line, which runs all the way up to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and covers important locations in central and eastern Delhi.
Track alignment including station layout has been revised for all stations. Officials said that topographical survey, traffic survey and environmental impact assessment study of the part from Narela to Kundli (5 km long) is underway.
The revised detailed project report for the Rithala-Narila-Kundli corridor is expected to be submitted by the end of this month. The DMRC said that after its completion, the DRC will be submitted to the government for consideration or approval.
