According to a preliminary report, the driver lost control of the bus due to heavy fog, continuous rain, and difficulty in cornering in the Ghats, and the vehicle fell into the valley.
At least 18 people were injured after a bus operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) had an accident in the ghats near Saptashrungi Fort in Nashik district on Wednesday.
According to local media reports, the bus was carrying about 35 people at the time of the accident.
This accident happened around 6:30 – 7:50 this morning when the bus fell into a deep ravine while returning from Saptasringi Fort to Khamgaon in Buldhana.
The injured, including the driver, were taken to hospital.
Among the injured passengers were Disha Vajrani (51), Anjali Gumari (43), Atul Gumari (41), Bhavesh Vajrani (25) and Sheikh Yunus (34).
A police source said that a woman among them was seriously injured in the accident which took place in Sapchrunji Garh Ghat section of Kalwan Taluka.
On Tuesday evening, the bus arrived at Sapchrunji Garh from Khamgaon in Buldana district. The official said the bus was returning on Wednesday morning when it skidded from Ganpati Point.
A woman was seriously injured, the official said, adding that the exact number of bus passengers and injured has not yet been confirmed.
He said local residents, police and other agencies have arrived at the scene and started the rescue operation.
Sources said District Regent Minister Dada Bhuze was on his way to the scene.
