Ahead of the first Test between India and the West Indies, former cricketer Wasim Jaffer took to his Twitter account to share his playing XI for the Men in Blue to select.
He selected Ishan Kishan for the role of wicket-keeper ahead of the incumbent KS Bharat, who has made eight appearances for India’s red ball team since Rishabh Pant’s injury.
However, Jaffer indicated that Kishan should be given a chance against the West Indies. He also named two bowling options, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, while Mukesh Kumar, Mohd Siraj and Jaidev Onadkat were his favorites.
In the batting section, Wasim Jaffer broke through Shubman Gill in the vacant No. 3 slot and picked Yashasvi Jaiswal as captain Rohit Sharma’s new opening partner.
Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, who looked confident from the start, were No. 4 and No. 5 in Wasim Jafar who played the XI in the First Test.
Figuring out the best group early will be key for Rohit Sharma & Co as they start the 2023-25 World Trial Championship (WTC) cycle.
The first competition of the two-match Test series between India and the West Indies is set to start on Wednesday 12 July at Windsor Park in Dominica.
It is worth noting that the West Indies have a better head-to-head record than India, winning 30 out of the 98 Tests played between the two sides. On the other hand, India emerged victorious on 28 occasions.
However, in recent years, India has dominated the West Indies in form. The West Indies last won a home Test against India in 2002. They haven’t scored a single home win against the men in blue in 21 years now.
