As many as 293 people were killed and more than 1,200 injured in a triple train collision near Pahanaga Bazar railway station in Balasore district on June 2.
Indian Railways has suspended seven days of its employees after the CRS report came out regarding the Balasore train tragedy which claimed the lives of 293 people. A job center manager, a traffic inspector and a technician have been suspended, along with those who have been arrested by the CBI.
Anil Kumar Mishra, director general of South Eastern Railways, told reporters: “If officials had been alert, the accident could have been averted. Seven employees have been suspended so far, three of whom have been arrested by the CBI as per the rules.” , the employee who has been detained for 24 hours is standing suspended.”

The CBI arrested the department’s chief engineer (signal) Arun Kumar Mahanta, the department’s engineer Muhammad Amir Khan and technician Babu Kumar. They are from the Signals Department and are posted in Balasore district of Odisha. They have been questioned several times since the investigation agency took over the case on June 6.
According to the CBI statement, the three are being held for their involvement in offenses under IPC Sections 304 (willful killing not amounting to murder), 201 (destroying evidence), and Section 153 of the Railway Act.
The three employees were detained for another four days by the Central Bank of Iraq, starting Wednesday. They were brought into the CBI’s designated court here after completing their 5-day remand on Tuesday.
Earlier, an investigation by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS), South East Circuit, revealed that the accident occurred due to lapses in the signaling circuit change at the station’s North Signal Goomty.

A few Coromandel Express buses toppled the last few buses of the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express which was passing at the same time.
