Indian Govt in Last 9 Years Reversed Rules and Regulations That Made Life Difficult for People: Jaishankar

In the past nine years, the Indian government has reversed maximum rules and regulations that have made life difficult for people, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said here on Wednesday, asking expatriates in Indonesia to share the story of India’s growth.

Addressing the Indian community in Jakarta, Jaishankar spoke about the changes taking place in India and the emergence of a new India.

“I think we are the country with the most rules and regulations on how to make life difficult for people. It’s been hundreds of years since this. Now, for the last nine years, we’ve reversed the clock… I think my memory serves me. We’ve gone up about 63 places in ease.” doing business,” Jaishankar said.

He said another concept promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is ease of living and how to make life more comfortable for the average Indian.

Presenting a picture of India under the present government, he said that 800 million people in the country have access to food, 450 million people have access to money in the bank, 150 million people have homes, a roof over their heads, and about 450 million people have got new water connections. .

“More people have electricity connections. 100 million people have exchanged firewood for petrol and today a third of the country is already covered by the health system and the pension system,” he said.

“All of those things are changing today,” he said. “But the other big change is actually the physical change in the rate of growth of infrastructure.”

He gave many examples such as express passport services, Covid vaccine production and digitization which have greatly improved the quality of life in India. Jaishankar also talked about the deep bonds and commonalities between India and Indonesia.

He said that both countries struggled for freedom around the same time.

There are many traditions that account for the many archaeological sites, and there are many cultural practices that the two nations have in common.

“When we look outward, we especially look towards ASEAN and within ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Indonesia is the largest country as the largest economy in a way that is the strongest cultural influence,” he said. “In the past few years, Indonesia has already emerged as ASEAN’s largest trading partner. Today our trade is close to 40 billion US dollars,” he said.

He said the Indian community and businesses in Indonesia are a very big part of the bilateral relations.

He said his fellow men and women who go out into the world and make their own lives make up the image of India.

He said, “You are the official custodians of this relationship. You are the real owners of this relationship.”

Speaking about the connectivity between the two countries, he said, “I see today as a notable step the fact that initiatives are now taking place to establish direct connectivity between Indonesia and I can assure you that as a foreign minister, we will encourage other carriers to look into this market.”

He said the challenge in the country today is how to make more and more Indians succeed in their home country.

“You have today an Indian government, a prime minister who doesn’t think in terms of a year or a period or a decade.
