TalkSPORT pundit Gabi Agbonlahor has paid tribute to Liverpool midfielder Alexis McAllister by referencing his World Cup heroics with Lionel Messi.
McAllister joined the Reds from Brighton for £35m on the back of a stellar season for club and country. He helped guide the Seagulls to Europa League qualification with 12 goals and three assists in 40 appearances across competitions.
The 24-year-old has also impressed at the 2022 World Cup with Argentina, scoring a goal and setting up one in six matches in Qatar. He was part of the Argentine national team that won the World Cup.
Agbonlahor thinks Liverpool’s acquisition of Mac Allister is a great job. He talked about the Argentine’s talents and what he will bring to Jurgen Klopp’s team:
“I think Alexis Mac Allister has shown Brighton the quality he has, his composure on the ball, getting into tight spaces, he can finish too.”
The former Aston Villa striker then touched on McAllister’s performance at the World Cup in which he put in an outstanding performance alongside Messi:
“He just won the World Cup, he shone in the World Cup for Argentina and I played with Messi, he didn’t look out of place. So he’s a good player who will add competition in that eighth position.”
Klopp has been making several changes to his midfield this summer amid a disappointing previous campaign. James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita have already departed.
Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson has agreed personal terms with the Saudi giants, who are coached by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. His midfield partner Fabinho was also the subject of a £40m bid from Al Ittihad.
Thus, Mac Allister is tasked with helping the Reds as they undergo a midfield rebuild. Heading to Anfield looking for certainty to make the No. 8 role his own.
The agreement said they would pay the money Lionel Messi should receive for Liverpool player Jordan Henderson
Former Liverpool midfielder Jermaine Pennant has been stunned by claims that the deal is willing to pay £700,000 a week to sign Henderson. The Liverpool captain is close to moving to Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium, where he will play under Gerrard.
Pennant cannot understand the financials involved in a potential deal and has argued that this kind of money should be paid for the likes of Messi. He told talkSPORT:
“It’s crazy and I don’t know what they see in him. It’s Jordan Henderson, it’s not like they’re trying to put Lionel Messi away. It’s just Jordan Henderson.”
Messi turned down a move to Saudi giants Al-Hilal earlier this summer after he was reportedly offered €400m (£345m) a year. Instead, the Argentine icon opted to join Inter Miami of the Major League Soccer.
However, Pennant does not believe Henderson deserves such wages, but the Reds captain did not hesitate to accept the deal offer. He has become a mainstay at Anfield since his arrival 12 years ago, making 492 appearances for the club.
