The NBA has gone through changes throughout the seasons it has existed, including the 3-Point Contest, which has revolutionized the game. However, the 3-pointer is not the most recent addition to the league and has been a part of the association for quite some time now.
Since the addition of the 3-point bow, players have upgraded their skills to expand their influence. The 3-Point Contest was first introduced in 1986 and has featured all-time great pitchers in the contest. Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics is one of two players to win the competition three times in a row.
However, Bird does not hold the record for the most points in a competition. Craig Hodges and Jason Capono bear this mark. Hodges scored 25 points on 21 of 25 shots in 1986. Capono tied him in 2008.

Hodges also tied Hubert Davis for most points in a semifinal at 24 in 1991. The 6-foot-2 guard truly dominated the 3-point arc as he holds the record in the 3-point contest for the most of consecutive shots. with 19, a feat he accomplished in 1991 as well.
The two-time champion also holds the most appearances in the competition having participated for eight consecutive years.

A legendary player who holds the record for the new format
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has decided to spice up the 3-point competition after declining viewership. In 2019, they added a new feature: the Mountain Dew area. Provides two opportunities to increase the player’s score by successfully executing shots.
Making a shot from the Mountain Dew Zone results in three bonus points. In the most recent format, Steve Curry of the Golden State Warriors holds the record for most points in a round. Now, with an overall increase of 40 points, Curry finished the first round of the 2021 3-Point Contest with 31 points.
Curry ended up winning the competition, making 70% of his attempts.

Since 1986, there has been a long list of participants who have taken the challenge to showcase their 3-Point abilities. Because of the talent in the competition, there have been great achievements from talented players over the years.
Old Men Records
Nowadays, power forwards and centers have developed a knack for shooting basketball from outside the arc. Dirk Nowitzki is the first 7-footer to win the competition, doing so in 2006. Meanwhile, Carl-Anthony Towns is the only center to win the 3-pointer.
Back to back wins
Since Jason Capono won back-to-back in 2007 and 2008, no one has been able to win the competition in back-to-back seasons. Players before him, such as Curry, won twice but not in consecutive years.
