Alphonso Davies is said to be keen to stay at Bayern Munich next season amid increased interest from Real Madrid this summer.
Davies, 22, has established himself as a regular in the Bavarian team since coming from his boyhood team Vancouver Whitecaps for €14m in 2018. He has helped Thomas Tuchel’s side win 13 trophies, including five consecutive Bundesliga titles.
The 39-cap, attack-minded Canadian international has been reported to have managed a permanent exit from Bayern Munich recently. With the player in the last two years of his contract, Real Madrid have reportedly expressed interest in signing the player.
According to Sport Bild, Davies is deadlocked with his club over potential contract renewal talks. He is interested in staying at Allianz Arena this summer and is expected to make a concrete decision on his future before the start of the new season.
In the meantime, Real Madrid are expected to continue to keep tabs on Davies, as there is still potential for a move in the future. They aim to snap up the player as a replacement for Ferland Mendy, who was said to be considered surplus to requirements.
Mendy, who is held until 2025 at the Santiago Bernabeu, has been replaced by Eduardo Camavinga as Los Blancos’ left-back since the turn of the year. Nacho Fernandez and David Alaba are also ahead of the Le Havre Academy product in the standings.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are expected to include summer signing Fran Garcia in their first-team plans for his upcoming campaign. They facilitated the player’s return from Rayo Vallecano for €5m earlier this summer.
Real Madrid-linked agent Alphonso Davies offers his honest opinion on the client’s future
Davies’ agent Nick Hoch told TSN Sports that his client is keen to continue with Bayern Munich:
“He’s happy at Bayern Munich. He’s won trophies, and it’s a good club, one of the best in the world. There aren’t many clubs he can go to. There are only a few select teams an athlete like him can go to.”
Davies, who is known for his speed, dribbling and passing, is likely to face stiff competition from summer arrival Rafael Guerrero in Thomas Tuchel’s team next season. He could decide to take on a new challenge in a team like Real Madrid, where he could be a key player.
The 2020 UEFA Champions League winner has scored eight goals and 25 assists in 153 appearances across competitions for Bayern Munich.
