Bournemouth continue their pre-season with a friendly match against Maccabi Tel Aviv at the Marbella Football Center in Marbella, Spain, on Sunday.
The Cherries managed to stay in the Premier League last season against all odds and will start a new top-flight campaign on August 12 at home to West Ham United.
Their preparation for the 2023-24 season was shattered after the Scottish club Hibernian were demolished 4-0 on Thursday. The match was divided into three 30-minute rounds to combat the scorching heat in the area but didn’t disrupt Cherry’s rhythm.
David Brooks opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Gideon Anthony doubled the lead seven minutes later. Then Philip Billing scored twice in the second half to add insult to injury to Hibernian as Andoni Iraola got off to a great start.
The Spaniard took over the reins of the southern side this summer after three years with La Liga side, Rayo Vallecano. He took them from the Segunda Division and turned the red sashes into a well-established team in the top flight, a testament to his managerial credentials.
Bournemouth will hope to avoid relegation and retain First Division status under him next season.
Speaking of Tel Aviv, the Israeli team has slipped a bit after winning the league in the 2019-20 season, and finished third again last season. Summer also got off to a bad start, losing 1-0 to South African side Orlando Pirates in their first pre-season friendly.
With the 2023-24 season officially kicking off the week after next season, the Yellows will be looking to add some wind to their sails with a win here.
Bournemouth’s confidence resurfaces after Thursday’s big win. It will be a tougher test for Maccabi Tel Aviv than Hibernian, but we expect them to prevail again, albeit by a narrow margin.
